Neurofeedback (Brain Training) with NeurOptimal®

Here’s the lowdown on what it’s all about:
NeurOptimal® is a brain training method that monitors brainwave activity via scalp sensors, offering real-time feedback to the brain for natural self-regulation. During sessions, the software detects subtle changes in brain activity and intervenes with brief interruptions in the audio feedback. This interruption prompts the brain to reorganise itself, promoting greater flexibility and resilience.

What to expect during a session:
Allow 45 minutes for your appointment. During this time, we’ll discuss areas you’d like to improve, such as sleep patterns, anxious behaviour, focus and so on. I’ll use conductive paste to attach two sensors to your scalp and three sensors to your ears. You’ll have the choice of using headphones or an external speaker to listen to a peaceful instrumental soundtrack during the 33-minute session. Since the process requires no conscious effort, you’re invited to engage in activities like reading, using a device, or even falling asleep. Once the session concludes, I’ll remove the sensors, and you’re free to leave.

When our brain struggles to smoothly detect change, we may experience rigidity, disorganisation, and persistent complaints. In disorders like depression or anxiety, where persistent electrical patterns maintain symptoms, NeurOptimal® interrupts these patterns, promoting unconscious adjustments.

The Zone Healing Technique

Here’s the lowdown on what it’s all about:
The Zone Healing Technique resets brain-body communication via spinal cord stimulation, addressing imbalances in the body’s six systems. This restores your body’s natural balance, promoting healing and optimal health.

What to expect during a session:
Sessions typically last 15-20 minutes. Typically (unless injury prevents it) you’ll be asked to lie down as I palpate six specific points on the back of your head. Once we’ve identified the primary cause of any imbalances, I’ll use my hands to apply gentle pressure on specific points along your spinal column, stimulating them to reset the brain centres. After treatment, I’ll check the points again to make sure they’ve cleared. I expect you to walk out the door feeling like sunshine, and on your way to improved health and vitality.

Our bodies comprise six systems: glandular, eliminative, nervous, digestive, muscular, and circulatory, each regulated by corresponding brain centres. These systems, along with their associated brain centres, correspond to specific points along the spinal cord.

Considering the body’s dynamic electrical activity, it’s comparable to an electrical machine. The six brain centres act as the positive pole, while related points in the spinal cord serve as the negative pole. When these centres are imbalanced, it’s as if your body ‘trips a switch’, leading to various discomforts and health issues.

Stimulation of the appropriate points sends healing energy from the spinal cord to the brain centres, allowing your body to rebalance and correct any disturbances so your body can heal.

Your body is designed to function optimally, every single day. However, normal function can be disturbed by stress – physical, emotional and chemical. The Zone Technique operates based on the belief that the body possesses innate self-healing abilities. Its aim is to balance your body, eliminating disruptions, so it can function as intended – perfectly. It is gentle and highly effective, as evidenced by testimonials from Zone patients worldwide.

The Zone Technique, pioneered by chiropractor Dr. Peter Goldman, integrates the fundamental principles of D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic in 1895, with the teachings of Dr. Thurman Fleet, who established Zone Therapy in 1931, alongside various other influences in healing and metaphysics.

While chiropractic is commonly associated with neck and back pain relief, its original principles extend beyond. D.D. Palmer emphasised the impact of misaligned vertebrae on nerve flow and health. Dr. Goldman’s Zone Technique continues this tradition, addressing alignment to restore overall health and wellbeing.

Dr Fleet’s Zone Therapy was renowned for its unparalleled healing outcomes. In the early 1990s, Dr. Goldman, mentored by Dr. Fleet’s top students, developed Zone Technique. His remarkable patient results drew interest from faculty during chiropractic school, leading patients from around the world to seek his treatment.

Reiki Healing

Here’s the lowdown on what it’s all about:
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a spiritual healing practice originating from Japan. It involves channeling universal life energy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual harmony. By placing my hands lightly on or near your body, I aim to balance energy and promote relaxation, facilitating your body’s natural healing processes.

What to expect during a session:
Before your arrival, I’ll smudge and clear the room of any residual, unwelcome energy, inviting the healing Reiki energy in.

When you arrive, we’ll chat a little about how you’re feeling, and then you’ll lie down (face-up) on the bed. I’ll place an eye pillow over your eyes and position seven crystals on or near your body, aligned with your main chakras, to enhance the energy flow.

Starting from your head, I’ll work my way down your body, respecting your preference for hands-on or hands-off healing, which we’ll establish during our chat. I usually spend a few minutes on a number of areas, scanning your body afterward for areas needing extra attention.

Once the session is complete, I’ll close off the flow of Reiki energy, removing the crystals and eye mask. You’ll be invited to rise slowly, have a drink of water, and discuss any thoughts or feelings you may have. Throughout, I’m attuned to the energy and am happy to share insights with you.

Typically, our session will last about 45 minutes, with around 30 minutes actively dedicated to Reiki. It’s truly a beautiful, relaxing, and uplifting experience.

The history of Reiki carries elements of controversy and uncertainty, but certain facts are widely accepted:

Reiki traces its origins to Japan in the early 20th century, primarily attributed to Mikao Usui, a spiritual seeker and educator. Usui’s journey began after a profound spiritual experience atop Mount Kurama, where he’s believed to have received Reiki energy. Through meditation and study, he developed Reiki’s foundational principles.

Prior to Usui developing his style of Reiki, there are believed to have been four other styles of Reiki being practiced in Japan.

Usui taught and spread his healing modality, and the technique was further refined and expanded with the introduction of hand positions and the system of attunements.

Reiki made its way to the West in the mid-20th century and the practice was simplified somewhat to make Reiki more accessible to Westerners. The practice spread globally.

Today, Reiki encompasses various lineages and approaches, but its core remains rooted in Usui’s spiritual insights and the belief in the channeling of universal life energy for healing and wellbeing.

Infrared Sauna

Here’s the lowdown on what it’s all about:
Infrared saunas offer numerous health benefits, including relaxation, muscle tension relief, stress reduction, improved circulation, detoxification, and skin rejuvenation. The infrared heat penetrates deeper, providing relief for joint pain and inflammation. Regular sessions may enhance sleep quality, metabolism, and overall wellbeing.

What to expect during a session:
You’ll have the option of choosing between a 30-minute or 45-minute duration. The sauna will be preheated to 55-60 degrees Celsius prior to your arrival. Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in, though I recommend underwear bottoms or swimwear.

Feel free to bring your own towels, although one will be provided for sitting on, and another for wiping yourself down. Staying hydrated is essential, so I’ll have a refreshing icy thermo-cup of water available for you to sip on throughout your session.

You’re welcome to bring along something to read, or connect to the Bluetooth speaker for music or a podcast. You may also choose to just rest and relax in silence.

At the end of the session, the sauna will automatically turn off. You can then exit and either dry off and get dressed, or if you prefer, take a shower before leaving. Rest assured, the sauna is thoroughly cleaned between uses, and fresh towels are provided for each session.

Cardiovascular benefits from sauna use are similar to those of moderate exercise, including heart rate elevation and protective mechanisms. Despite past concerns, saunas appear beneficial even for individuals with cardiovascular disease, potentially reducing risks of sudden cardiac death and all-cause mortality. Long-term sauna use may also help lower blood pressure.

Mentally, sauna bathing correlates with reduced risks of neurodegenerative diseases and improved mental health outcomes. While detoxification benefits are evident, further research is needed. Sauna use also shows promise in managing diabetes and reducing pain.

Sauna bathing can alleviate pain and improve joint mobility in individuals with rheumatic disease, without causing skin dryness and potentially benefiting those with psoriasis.

However, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have underlying health conditions or concerns such as low blood pressure, heat sensitivities, multiple sclerosis, recent heart issues or fever-related illnesses. Previously, pregnant women were cautioned against sauna use due to potential risks, but recent studies indicate that it is generally safe.

Overall, sauna bathing offers a holistic approach to wellbeing, enhancing health and quality of life.
